Like a fish in water?
Do you understand how new technologies can help us improve biological control and animal welfare? Then maybe you are the right person to help us explore new seawater salmon farming methods using latest developments in digitalization and new technologies!
The salmon industry in Norway is developing at a rapid rate with new approaches to sustainable farming methodologies at sea. Cermaq is a major global player in the salmon industry and is already active in the development of new solutions with suppliers and partners to produce healthy salmon to a high demand market. Norway is the leader in research and development for the salmon sector, and we wish to leverage the best innovations present here and expand them within Norway and to our other companies in Chile and Canada.
The new colleague that we are looking for have a MSc in biology, technology, or innovation. If you happen to have a PhD, you are also warmly welcome to apply. Knowledge and experience from aquaculture is highly desired.
What’s the job mainly about?

- Taking our OPCOs needs and challenges in to account, you do research and analyze data and statistics to create an operational understanding of the possibilities and limitations of technological development. This can e.g. mean that you are comparing different technologies, analyzing effects on fish welfare, economic perspectives, or possible scalability.
- The insight you gain you use to provide advisory and recommendations for our Operational Companies (OPCOs) on seawater technology management and innovation opportunities that could contribute to improving operations and fish welfare.
Seawater innovation projects
- From researching possible solutions for an operational challenge to field testing, validation studies, and potential implementation you manage, coordinate or participate as advisor in seawater innovation projects and activities mainly for our operations in Norway.
- As Innovation Manager you can also act as the external and internal contact person for certain assigned projects. This could e.g. include dialogue with technology or knowledge suppliers, external partners, or internal project colleagues. You often also ensure documentation and reporting to internal project owners or authorities.
- As you support projects you also offer industry and science analyses and updates from internal and external reports. This can include statistical analysis, analysis of production data, understanding of effects of challenges in technology in a biological perspective.
Best Practices and continuous improvement
- Another important part of the role as Innovation Manager is to develop best practice reports and documents based on analyses, statistics, research and close dialogue with our operational colleagues. You also evaluate and update existing best practice documentation and reports regularly.
- You contribute to global sharing of experience, competence and best practices within the organization and support access to the Norwegian technology and knowledge ecosystem.
- You have a problem-solving and service-minded approach and understand the value of having a close collaboration with our OPCOs to address operational challenges and solutions.
The team & Everyday work
As our Innovation Manager you will be a part of, and an important contributor to, the Strategy & Seawater Innovation team where Harald Takle will be your leader.
You will mainly manage your own working day based on your responsibilities, tasks, deliveries, and appointments. Some of your tasks involve extensive collaboration, while others demand more independent work. As we operate on an international level and are lucky enough to collaborate with people from different parts of the world, we hope you are fluent in English, but also Norwegian since most of your work will be in Norway. You will work at our office in Bjørvika, Oslo. Although we aim to use Teams when suitable, there will be some travelling, mostly in Norway.
